Alleged pregnant woman killed in car accident

Alleged pregnant woman dead, two others injured in car accident over the weekend.

An alleged pregnant woman died following a car accident near West Village on the R28 between Randfontein and Krugersdorp on Saturday night, 3 December.

While the matter is currently under investigation, it is believed that she was ejected from the vehicle after it had rolled several times. According to a reliable source, the driver, who already had two passengers in the vehicle, obliged when she asked them for a lift. It is further alleged that the three occupants of the vehicle were intoxicated.

While the other two injured passengers were allegedly transported to hospital, the driver at first was nowhere to be seen.

When the Herald arrived at the scene, the forensic officer was taking footage and gathering evidence with the help of the West Village Neighbourhood Watch (WWNW). Gary Badenhorst, WWNW chairperson said,

” The woman passed away – she was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled.”

The Krugersdorp Police was also assisting.

While taking photos of the accident scene the Herald noticed a red vehicle with two male occupants arriving. The Herald thought it was the woman’s family.

The next moment, a man, talking on his cellphone, appeared out of nowhere. Witnesses identified him as the alleged driver of the vehicle involved in the crash. The next moment, the red vehicle sped off in the direction of Randfontein.

A police officer on scene confirmed to the Herald that the driver was indeed picked up and the police as well as a tow truck were chasing them. Tshepiso Mashale, Krugersdorp Police Station spokesperson, said she is looking into the matter, and will comment at a later stage.

At the time of publishing, the Herald could not confirm if the driver was arrested.
