Make this festive dessert for vegans

Just because dessert has no meat, it does not make it vegan.

You have a vegan friend over for a festive dinner and you’ve nailed the main course.

Dessert should be fine because there’s no meat in dessert anyway, right? Wrong.

Many dessert foods – just like other foods are made with animal by-products and would rub any vegan up the wrong way.

Rather make your vegan guests these delicious gooey vegan chocolate chip cookies:

What you need:

• 3 medium-ripe bananas

• 2 tablespoons flaxseed

• Half a cup crunchy peanut butter

• 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

• 3 tablespoons agave nectar

• 1 and a half cups rolled oats

• 1 cup almond meal

• Half a teaspoon baking powder

• Half a teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

• 1 pinch sea salt

• 1 handful walnuts

• Half a cup semisweet vegan chocolate chips

What to do:

• Preheat your oven to 170 degrees Celsius.

• Combine the flaxseed with 5 tablespoons of water in a large bowl and let this rest for about five minutes.

• Mash the bananas into the soaked flax seeds until you achieve a smooth consistency. Then add the peanut butter, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, melted coconut oil, agave nectar, salt, vanilla and stir well.

• Mix in the rolled oats and almond meal and stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts then drop the mixture by the spoonful on a greased baking sheet.

• Pop into the oven and bake for approximately 15 minutes or until the cookies are slightly brown.

• Cool slightly, serve and blow your vegan friends away!
