"We are giving you an opportunity for exposure, go out there and shine." - Executive Mayor, Mzi Khumalo

On 24 November, the Executive Mayor of the Rand West City Municipality, Mzi Khumalo, hosted a farewell lunch for twelve youths whom he had assisted to get an internship to take part in the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics programme in Germany.

The twelve young people left South Africa, en route for Germany, on the 26 November. Mayor Khumalo, who has been nicknamed “Mr Fixit” because he always strives to provide solutions to problems, is very passionate about youth and community empowerment.

Mayor Khumalo said, “As part of showing my commitment to improving the lives of our people, I have ensured that the youth of Rand West City become part of this important programme.

It is a lifetime achievement for these young people. I wish to encourage you to keep the torch burning as our ambassadors, even if the going gets tough.”

He went on to say that young people need to be role models to others, just as he was in his youthful years. “We are giving you an opportunity for exposure – go out there and shine. I wish you all the best in your trip”, he concluded.

Mayor Khumalo also said that these youngsters must champion economic freedom in their lifetime

by bringing home good results from this programme, maintaining a positive attitude, and achieving excellence.

He then committed to getting the youth desk, led by Sfiso Dikana, to closely monitor this group’s progress, and to coming with a strategy to provide further support. Both the beneficiaries and their parents expressed their excitement about the Mayor’s initiative.
