25 from Randmark complete 947 Cycle Challenge

All 25 athletes from Randmark finished the 947 Cycle Challenge.

This year a resounding total of 25 members of the Randmark Run, Walk and Cycling Club completed the 947 Cycle Challenge, which is also known as the toughest cycling road race on the Gauteng calendar.

According to Karin Bezuidenhout, a Randmark Club spokesperson, most of the cyclists trained for the previous three to four months to be fit for this gruelling race.

“This race is definitely not a race one should consider doing without the correct training. Well, it can be done but one will suffer and be very sore afterwards,” she said.

She added it was a stunning and well-organised race, that took place in beautiful weather.

I am proud to announce that every last member of our club finished the race – with the encouragement of others, of course.”

As if the 947 Cycle Challenge isn’t enough on its own, various brave warriors from this club will be running the Tough One 32 kilometre race on Sunday 27 November.

According to Karin, the four members tackling the two challenges back-to-back will receive a “special double medal”. They are Hannie Doogan, Lizeth Rowan, Danie Steyn and Karin herself.

“The success can be attributed to the support and encouragement from other club members. Positive encouragement goes a long way, and that goes for running and cycling,” Karin concluded.
