Get to know a ‘Teiner #6

The sixth person in the Herald’s Get to know a Randfonteiner project introduces himself.

This week’s ‘Teiner is Ofentse Ntibane who is also know as Sepeng.

Ofentse is 29 years old and lives in Mohlakeng. He got the nickname Sepeng after Hezekiél Sepeng whom he idolises and strangely resembles.

“I also used to run the 800 metres and all these things made people call me Sepeng,” he said.

Ofentse is a running coach and works with pupils from a number of schools. He runs the Boabab Athletics Club in Mohlakeng. From time to time he also works on special sports projects for the government.

He is a sportsman and when he isn’t running and training, he enjoys watching videos from previous Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games to pick up tips, strategies and compare it to what his own athletes are doing.

“It’s important to learn from previous games to see what went wrong and how we can improve,” he said.

When asked how he knows he is in Randfontein, he said, “You know you’re in Randfontein when you see people playing sports. We are sports people. Randfontein people play sports with passion,” he said.
