Hairdresser pair donate all their proceeds from the Relay for Life to Cansa.

A local hairdressing duo that have a cause close to their hearts have done their part to help others.

Beaudine Byleveldt, owner of Salon Beaudine and Marlize Maritz (Marlize @ Salon Beaudine) invested in a stall at this year’s Cansa Relay for Life to shave, spray and decorate participants’ heads for a fee.

All the money collected went to the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa).

Marlize explained that they chose to support the cause because it’s something close to both of their hearts.

Marlize’s mother is a cancer survivor and because Marlize and Beaudine are close colleagues, they took to the Cansa cause.

Elize Maritz was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2012. After her chemotherapy sessions, she went into remission but then her cancer kept coming back.

Since 2012, she has undergone six chemotherapy sessions and came out strong. Marlize said her doctors at the time called her a fighter.

Marlize said her mother now stays positive and on her knees, which is why she and Beaudine decided to do the good deed for Cansa and by extension the community.

In addition to taking care of hair during the relay, Salon Beaudine also wrote in a team for the relay to further help raise funds and to support Elize.

They were one of the most creative teams during the relay. Every member of the team, including the men, wore a blue tutu as well as T-shirts branded in support of Elize.
