Murdered blue-eyed girl: Funeral arrangements confirmed

A family spokesperson confirmed funeral arrangements have been made for the murdered toddler, Poppie van der Merwe in Westonaria.

Funeral arrangements have been finalised for Poppie van der Merwe, the toddler who allegedly was murdered by her stepfather, a family spokesperson confirmed.

The funeral will be held in Westonaria. However, the family requested that their privacy be respected and that the date, time and venue of the funeral are not published.

Last week Poppie, a beautiful blue-eyed blonde girl died on her way to a hospital in Brits after she allegedly had sustained injuries all over her body. Her stepfather has been charged with her murder and he will appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Thursday, 3 November).

Earlier this week, the girl’s biological father, Christo van der Merwe, who is a diesel mechanic in Westonaria was too traumatised to speak to the Herald. His spokesperson, who wishes not to be named, said, “This tragic incident happened in Brits, where Poppie lived with her stepfather and her mother”.

Many people are expected to show up at the stepfather’s first court appearance tomorrow. It is believed he will be applying for bail.
