CANSA Relay for Life held at Ram

The CANSA Relay For Life will this year be held at Laerskool Randfontein (Ram).

This year’s Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) Relay for Life will be held at Laerskool Randfontein (Ram).

The event kicks off at 6pm on Friday, 4 November until 6am on Saturday, 5 November.

CANSA Relay For Life is part of an international movement that unites cancer survivors and the communities that care about them. It offers everyone in a community, both young and old, the opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer and to honour those who have been touched by cancer. It is an opportunity for survivors and their loved ones to fight against cancer together.

Relay For Life is a fun, overnight team event, which is volunteer-driven and community owned. At the relay, teams of 10 to15 friends, neighbours, families and co-workers commit to having at least one team member walking around the track at all times, for 12 hours. The reason behind this is that cancer neither slumbers nor sleeps.

The Relay For Life event will open with a heartfelt Survivors’ lap, honouring cancer survivors and their caregivers. The theme is taking CANSA to Disney land. There will be prizes for the best dressed, best spirit, most rounds completed and many more.

After sunset, tribute will be paid in a Luminaria Ceremony by lighting candles, inside luminaria bags which encircle the track. These luminaria bags are dedicated to those who have lost their battle, those who are still fighting cancer and to those who have won their struggle against cancer. SA

Teams are encouraged to raise funds in support of the fight against cancer in the Randfontein community. Teams camp out overnight around the track and enjoy entertainment, fun and camaraderie in a festival-like atmosphere.

There will be live entertainment, competitions, line dancers and singers, including Candy Benson and many more.
