And the R1,5 million bursary goes to …

Yet another W'aria Grade 7 pupil has been awarded a bursary of R1,5 million to pursue her school career from Grade 8 to 12.

Neliswa Ntintili from Laerskool Gerrit Maritz Primary is another Grade 7 pupil from the area to have received a massive bursary of R1,5 million to continue her schooling career (Grades 8 to 12) at Kingswood College in Grahamstown.

It all started with an invitation to enrol in the South Deep Education Trust (SDET) Grade 7 bursary project. Primary schools of the Greater Westonaria were to submit two nominations (one boy and one girl). Thereafter a meeting was scheduled with the parents of the nominees.

Nominees were assessed by the SDET and then interviewed by a panel representing SDET and Kingswood College. The nominees had to sit for a numeracy and literacy assessment. What they were looking for, was someone they described as an ‘uncut diamond’ – someone with a passion to uplift and give back to the community in which they were raised.

Neliswa was short-listed for the final round of the SDET Grade 7 excellence awards last Thursday (22 September). The next day Neliswa experienced something she described as “the best thing that has ever happened to me” when she was crowned as ‘The Chosen One’ to receive the bursary.

Neliswa learnt that “hard work, dedication and perseverance pay off in the end and that respect goes a long way”.

The school and community are extremely proud of her and wish her the very best on her journey to becoming an architect.
