Youngster arrested following home invasion

A concerned neighbour had to wake the victim after the robbery.

Yet another young man, this one a mere 22 years old, has been arrested for housebreaking and theft in Bekkersdal.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said the alleged housebreaking and theft took place on 14 May on Rampou Street, Bekkersdal.

It is alleged the victim was asleep in his home when he was woken by a neighbour who had noticed that the door to his house was open.

Lefakane said the victim investigated and found that the door was indeed open and his plasma TV, a computer processing unit and a keyboard were missing. He reported the matter to the police. Detective Constables Thembinkosi Mapoloba and Tshepo Mashala were assigned to the case.

The suspect was later identified through positive fingerprint recognition, and shortly after he was arrested and charged.

The young suspect appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on 1 September.
