Your last chance to enter Miss SA 2017

Miss South Africa Roadshow comes to Johannesburg on Saturday, August 27, with the final round of regional judging taking place at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton.

Judging on the day are TV personality Maps Maponyane and radio presenter Bridget Masinga. Also present will be reigning Miss South Africa Ntandoyenkosi Kunene as well as three former Miss South Africa title holders – Suzette van der Merwe (1990) and Claudia Henkel (2004, who are on the judging panel and Nicole Flint (2009) who will be MC.

Auditions have taken place around South Africa during the past six weeks and the calibre of entries has amazed the judges as hundreds of young women have taken part.

Maps says, “The young women have really impressed me. We’ve heard some incredible stories and met remarkable women that are a great representation of what Miss South Africa is truly about. What has stood out for me is the bravery of the women who have come to the auditions with a mission to bring to the forefront their intelligence before anything else.

“Many contestants have challenged us this year to debate what ‘beauty’ really is as opposed to the societal stereotypes; and that confidence by those particular contestants, who have ignited that conversation, has been refreshing.”

To the young women who are still entering Maps has a message.

“We are spoilt with beauty everywhere we look in South Africa so that will not be enough to get someone to the final stages of Miss South Africa. I implore you to challenge yourself and dig deeper for something with far greater value that you may be able to offer.”

Fellow judge Masinga is in full agreement.

“This crop of hopefuls has a genuine grasp of who they are and what they desire for their futures. I have met some women who are truly inspired and inspiring, which leaves me feeling that whoever walks away victorious in 2017, will be very deserving of the title. I was pleasantly surprised at the calibre of candidates in Port Elizabeth which proved that one should never underestimate the power that lies in a small metro.

“I have had the opportunity to engage in a one-on-one basis with a vast majority of the hopefuls from across the regions and one thing that is clear – South Africa is in the hands of truly dynamic, strong-willed and determined young women. With the Miss South Africa pageant and Cell C backing the winner and enabling her to realise her dreams with a cash prize of R1 million it can only be a fabulous year of adventure for whoever wins,” she adds.

The Miss South Africa pageant, presented by Sun International in collaboration with Cell C, takes place at Sun City at the end of March. For the first time in the history of the pageant, the winner will receive R1-million in cash as well as a car, an international holiday and other prizes in a package that exceeds R2-million. The finalists for 2017 will each receive a R25 000 cash prize.
