Man murdered for his music choice

The victim was stabbed twice - once in the shoulder and chest.

A young man has been arrested for allegedly murdering a man because the song he chose on a juke box was ‘boring.’

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, explained that the murder took place in the early hours of 1 August, in Bekkerdal’s Spooktown informal settlement.

It is alleged that the 23-year-old suspect and a 25-year-old man were listening to music on a juke box, but when the victim started playing a song the suspect found boring, a fight broke out between the two.

The suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim twice, in the shoulder and chest. The victim was rushed to a local clinic, but was declared dead upon arrival.

The suspect was later arrested and charged with murder. He appeared before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court earlier this month.

The Bekkersdal station commander, Colonel Mbangwa Nkhwashu, applauded both detective Warrant Officer Bernard Makgato for making the arrest, and the other officers who assisted in bringing the suspect to book.
