Threatre in aid of a charity

The proceeds will go to the benefit of the ill on the West Rand.

West Rand — The West Rand’s beacon of light for the terminally ill, Old Oak Hospice Diverse, will be the beneficiary of a fundraiser to be held on 7 September at the Cresta Barnyard Theatre.

The fundraiser will take the form of a show entitled Seven Decades of the Ultimate One Hit Wonders. There are 400 tickets available to support the cause.

The Helderkruin Lions Hospice is hosting the event to raise funds for the newly-opened Old Oak, which opened its doors a few months after the West Gauteng Hospice closed theirs.

Old Oak services the entire West Rand, including Randfontein and Westonaria. It is located on the premises of the old hospice at 51 Burger Street.

Ina Meiring from Old Oak said the proceeds of the event will go towards covering the costs of a wheelchair-friendly shower, computers, wall heaters and walkers for the Inpatient Unit (IPU) which they will soon be opening. Some of the money will also be used to pay for the eight la-z-boy chairs they are planning to buy for the use of family members who stay overnight to be with their ill loved ones.

This is not the only fundraising project Old Oak has embarked on. They also have a wall on Paardekraal Road, Krugersdorp on which businesses can advertise for a fee. The fees go toward the upkeep of the hospice.
