Preparing for a paramedic’s arrival

Emergencies are less chaotic if you know what to do.

Emergency situations are always chaotic especially when injuries are involved and most times not knowing what to do adds fuel to the fire.

ER24 has issued information on how to prepare for the arrival of paramedics at your home.

The tips serve to get the patient emergency medical care as soon as possible and also to avoid confusion from the paramedic’s side or the patient’s next of kin’s side.

How to prepare your home before paramedics arrive:

• Move all cars and obstructions from the driveway.

• Ensure a clear path to the patient inside as well as outside.

• Put pets away before the ambulance and paramedics arrive.

• Gather all the patient’s medication, medical aid documentation (if applicable) as well as his or her identity document (ID).

• If the emergency is at night, turn the outside lights on before paramedics arrive.

• Wait outside for the ambulance or open the gate for them to see which house the emergency is at.

• Last but not least, remain calm.
