With great arrests come great rewards

EPR's men in black rewarded for making arrests in June.

EPR Security has obviously become masterful at using handcuffs, given the large number of suspects they hand over to the police.

Once a month, EPR holds a meeting with all staff to discuss concerns and the way forward, and award members who have helped bring suspects to book.

Their most recent meeting took place on Thursday, 30 June. The meeting resembled an assembly of the National Defence Force.

Management assesses the month’s report and informs officers of the way forward. The meeting is also used as a platform for officers to communicate their concerns to management and speak to officers in other areas.

Reaction officers are not the only employees participating in the meeting. The control room operators sit in as well, to keep the lines of communication open in the event of an emergency.

Before the end of the meeting, officers are called upon to receive their certificates. Certificates mean little in the current economic climate, so EPR gives a monthly cash bonus to each of the officers who made arrests.

In future, control room operators will be included in the monthly bonus system. The criteria against which they will be judged include reporting a crime to an officer in such an efficient way that an arrest results.

Ten officers received certificates for making arrests in June, namely:

• Nolan Gerber

• Willem van der Merwe

• Paul Putter

• Tiaan Venter

• Joe Pretorius

• Jacques Kriel

• Jakes du Toit

• Mario Viljoen

• Renier Bezuidenhout

• Johan Steyn
