How to work out properly

Local gym bunny: Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Whether you have personal fitness goals, wanting to lose weight or just eager to pick up those weights again, it is crucial to keep the following in mind.

Mark Hey from FitStop Gym in Greenhills gave a few guidelines on how to go about exercising when you are starting out.

When you are a beginner it is strongly advisable to assess your body. This includes a series of minor work-outs which will analyse your heart rate and breathing among other things. The results will then indicate the type of exercise your body needs. Therefore you are less likely to injure yourself as you know what suits your health. The assessment can be done by trained specialists at specific gyms.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. It is crucial to take it easy on the first day and increase the intensity steadily over time. Mark emphasised the fact that getting your dream body is not a one week process. It takes months of dedication to achieve your desired results.

“It is possible to eat an elephant; but one bite at a time,” he said.

Remember, as much as your body works out it needs to rest. A work-out five times a week for one hour each is advisable to prevent exhaustion.

Health always comes first! It is very important to inform your personal trainer and/or gym partner if you have a serious medical condition. This is necessary to avoid any medical related injuries.
