RHC too good on home soil for Vaal boys

Teine take a two-point win against Old Vaal.

Yet another team has had to bow before Randfontein Hockey Club (RHC).

Old Vaal, a hockey team hailing from Vanderbijlpark, went up against RHC but soon discovered they were way out of their league. The full-time score was 2–0 to RHC.

The match was tough and both teams put everything they had into their game. RHC and Vaal spent most of the first half sizing each other up strategically setting up plays around the field in hopes of scoring.

Teine dominated ball possession in the first half and managed more shots at goal than their Vaal counterparts. In doing so, Teine managed to set up a press within Vaal’s half of the field, ensuring that Vaal stayed on the back foot while defending their posts. Late in the first half Teine buried the ball at the back of Vaal’s net, beating the keeper with an unexpected deflection from Kevin Steyn.

Vaal came back strongly in the second half, pushing harder to penetrate Teine’s striking circle but they couldn’t manage a finishing play.

Teine took advantage of every opportunity Vaal gave them and converted three turnover balls into shots at goal. Two balls went in, but one goal was disallowed by the umpire. The other gave them their two-point lead. Both these shots were made by Bennett ‘Shady’ Nchabeleng, Teine’s centre link.

RHC is currently undefeated in their league, and have only had two goals scored against them since the season began. They conceded both these goals to Home of Hockey (HOH).
