R’fonteiner crowned as Miss Johannesburg

'Be the change you want to see in the world'

Yet another pageant queen has emerged from Randfontein, holding the town’s name high.

On Saturday, 18 June, 22-year-old Phenice le Roux was crowned Miss Johannesburg at the Miss Johannesburg competition. She describes herself as a loving, committed and spontaneous young woman with a passion for pageantry and children.

At the age of 16 she competed in her first competition through the RoleModels Foundation as she didn’t know anything about pageantry at the time. After she obtained a position in the Top 20, she was determined to try for a higher title. Fuelled by her late father’s motivation, she kept on trying, as she knew she wanted to make a difference.

“Never give up. You should always try again and again. It’s not about the title, it’s about your inner beauty and what you are willing to do for others,” she said.

Her vision is to be a role-model for young girls and to guide them on the right path. This stems from her troubled past and the absence of a female figure to look up to.

“I want to take young girls by the hand and help them grow,” she said.

Although she has been offered a position as General Regional Manager of the RoleModels foundation for Gauteng, her goal is to keep on working with children and to speak to young girls at their schools. Phenice emphasised the importance of a stable foundation for girls by saying that education is the key to success.

Big achievements to date include:

• Top 20 in Miss Teen Port Elizabeth (2010)

• Miss Teen PE 1st princess (2013)

• Miss Johannesburg 2nd princess (2015)

• Miss Gauteng 1st princess (2015)

• Miss Johannesburg (2016)

Although Phenice has completed various courses in beauty, she aims to focus on other projects such as the Diepsloot Imfundo Educare project. Phenice’s intention in conjunction with the RoleModels Foundation, is to rebuild the corrugated iron school building situated on their own property with proper materials and to equip the toddlers with clothes and food every month.
