Fundraiser a success for boy with deadly condition

The fundraiser was a huge success, as friends and family of Raveen gathered at the stadium

On Saturday, 28 May, a successful fundraiser was held at the Toekomsrus Stadium for Raveen Dollie, 4, after he developed a rare and deadly syndrome called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome.

This syndrome is a form of Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis – a life-threatening skin condition in which cell death causes the epidermis to separate from the dermis. The syndrome is thought to be a hypersensitivity complex that affects the skin and the mucous membranes.

The most well-known causes are certain medications, but it can also be due to infections or more rarely, cancers.

Little Raveen also had a near drowning incident in 2013 and after that incident starting getting seizures.

When Raveen started taking new medication for the seizures, he developed an deadly allergic reaction. This caused Raveen to get blisters all over his face and swollen eyes. After many tests at the hospital, Raveen eventually was diagnosed with Steven Johnson Syndrome. His aunt, Rashida White, 25, wanted to help Raveen’s grandmother, Shahieda Dollie, financially, since the medical bills started piling up.

The fundraiser was a huge success, as friends and family of Raveen gathered at the stadium. There were all kinds of activities such as a jumping castle for the children, food stalls, a drive in car wash, face painting and a DJ.

“There was about 100 community members that supported this cause.

We thank everybody that took time out of their schedule to help Raveen,” White said.

She also thanks her team, Carcia Meyer, Constance Maegar, Clayton von Meulen and Fazel Carimo for all their help in making this day a success.
