Carryou Ministries does it again

Elderly wheelchair-bound woman given a helping hand.

Carryou Ministry has once again made a difference in the life of a Randfontein resident – this time a senior confined to a wheelchair.

Maria Haremse, 65, popularly known as Aunty Meisie, recently acquired a vegetable garden and some of her home’s walls re-plastered by Carryou Ministries.

Aunty Meisie was confined to a wheelchair when she developed spinal problems. She said that times were tough especially considering that she has to survive on a government pension and a disability grant while living with her daughter and grandchildren. Aunty Meisie has to get to hospital regularly which costs the family a fortune in transport and leaves very little money for food.

Carryou Ministry heard about her situation and decided to make a difference in her life for the better. They planted her a vegetable garden that included spinach, pumpkin, carrots, beetroot, and onions to help the family get a variety of fresh food to lighten their financial load. The vegetable garden was planted on Nelson Mandela day last year.

Carryou also wanted to replaster some of the walls of Aunty Meisie’s home, but they did not have the resources to help her then. But, months later, in May 2016, Carryou was finally able to help Aunty Meisie again.

When Carryou went to finish what they’d started, they not only plastered the walls; they also added new vegetables to Aunty Meisie’s garden.

When asked to comment on the work Carryou had done on her home, Aunty Meisie said,

It is wonderful and makes me very happy.”

Aunty Meisie will now be taken to the Carryou Drop In Centre in Toekomsrus every day because she, too, wants to give back to the community.

“There she will be taken care of and given a hot meal and in return she will teach youngsters knitting skills,” Kenneth Malepe, Carryou Ministry Programme Manager said.
