RHS hockey boys prove their metal at Wanderers

Neo Ramokhoase was the top goal scorer for the team with 2 goals and 1 penalty flick.

Randfontein High School’s junior and senior hockey teams were once again invited to participate in the prestigious annual Aitken and Boden Hockey tournament held over the weekend of 13 to 15 May.

The Aitken Trophy, which was held predominantly at Bidvest Wanderers Stadium this year, is made up of three sections, namely A, B and C with sixteen teams allocated to each section. This meant a total of 48 hockey schools took part in this section of the tournament.

The Boden Trophy, the u.15 portion of the tournament, hosted mostly at Fourways High School, saw 32 schools competing against each other for the privilege of being named the hockey kings of Gauteng.

Saturday saw a downpour of rain which left the crowd feeling as though they were attending a swimming tournament rather than a hockey one, but nothing could put a damper on the RHS boys’s spirit. They jumped right in, displaying their true RHSian style.

RHS’s first team played six games over the duration of the tournament.

Their results are as follows:

• RHS 0-0 Roosevelt High School

• RHS 1-0 Woodlands High School

• RHS 1-2 King’s School Westrand

• RHS 1-0 Linden High School

• RHS 2-5 (on penalties) Boksburg High School

• RHS 1-2 Roosevelt High

Neo Ramokhoase was the top goal scorer for the team with 2 goals and 1 penalty flick.

The u.15s played five games, one against a club – Silverstars Diepsloot – and literally went from strength to strength, never giving up even though the going got tough. RHS is extremely proud of there hockey teams.
