Local Drugs Action Committee launched in Toekies

Over 100 community members gathered to show their support in the fight against drugs.

Toekomsrus on Tuesday, 26 April finally launched there own Local Drugs Action Committee (LDAC) at the Toekomsrus Hall.

Over 100 community members gathered to show their support in the fight against drugs.

Enrico Bhana, chairperson of the LDAC, told the Herald that recovered drug addicts from the Toekomsrus Alcoholic and Narcotics anonymous group shared there testimonies and left the guests in tears.

These recovered addicts include Tevin Fritz, Shaqil Moses, Marvin Stellenberg and Jermaine du Toit.

“Vanessa Goosen, our guest speaker – who is a survivor and author of the book Drug Mulled – gave the guests hope by telling her story. She also gave her signed book to one of the recovered drug addicts as a token of appreciation and great bravery for asking for forgiveness from the people of Toekies,” Bhana said.

The newly elected LDAC committee also was named and most of them are young energetic movers and shakers in Toekies.

The leadership committee is as follow: Enrique Bhana (Chairperson), Graham Fritz (Deputy Chairperson), Evelyn Vos (Treasurer), Venetia Stevens (Deputy Treasurer), Brumilda Morris (Secretary).

Additional members are Elsie Macfarlane, Leilani Bingham, Koos Louw, Andre Roberts, Jermain Du Toit, Tevin Fritz, Marvin Stellenberg, Eleanor Nero, Yvonne Fourie, Owen Green, Rashida Abrahams, Cheslyn Bingham and Charity Losper.

The LDAC of Toekomsrus would like to thank Hope Dube from the West Rand Department of Social Development and Raylene Martin (Randfontein LDAC chairperson) for a great day and for finally putting this important event into place.
