Chair thieves stopped in their tracks

Security: The suspects attempted to steal property while the homeowner was at home.

Mapogo Security caught two suspected thieves in their tracks after they were attempting to steal chairs from a house in Greenhills on Friday morning.

Pieter Smith and Dirk Boshoff are the reaction officers from Mapogo who apprehended the suspects.

According to Smith, the suspects jumped over a wall and were busy stealing chairs while the owner’s wife was in the house and he was out fishing. The neighbouring house owner saw the suspects and once discovered, they decided to flee the scene not knowing they would shortly be in custody.

Both the neighbour and homeowner are looking at opening cases at the Randfontein Police Station.

One of them was caught and held on the scene of the crime while the other made his way to Raven Street when Smith drove past pretending not to see him and suddenly surprised him and detained him.

“I was driving in Raven Street and I saw the suspect running. When he saw me he started to walk so I pretended not to see him, checked him in the mirror as I drove past and later arrested him. The other suspect is being held at the scene,” Smith said.

A resident who wished not to be named drove past encouraging the arrest as their neighbours’ house was recently broken into and that the community needs to start patrolling and standing together.
