Rumble in the R’fontein jungle

The furious five set off to the Cape to knock out the competition.

Their training is non-stop, their blows are like canons, their coach is the town’s mad scientist of boxing and they are in it to win it at the South African Boxing Championships.

The club’s current top five boxers, Amorie Gonsalves, Abel Ndava, Hardus Jacobs, Harry Joubert and Nicole Calitz took to the road on Monday to participate in the SA Boxing Championships where they are expecting to bring home medals.

The furious five has previously boxed at the SA Championships and have proven their worth by getting nothing less than the first three places.

Amorie Gonsalves comes from a long line of boxers and lives up to her lineage.

Abel is known to the Herald as the dancing boxer because of his sheer style in the ring. Harry has known to be the fastest boxer in the club and had an outstanding performance when he took the gold in his weight class at the Gauteng Boxing Championships.

Nicole has been consistent in her boxing and has fought each of her fights like it was the end. Hardus’ reputation precedes him and he currently stands a chance to tour Russia should he take gold.

The training involved in getting to SA level boxing is grueling especially weight woes when being in a lower weight. These five boxers have dedicated their lives to the sport and are training to be household names in the country.

The club’s head coach, Willie Gonsalves also has had a few achievements of his own while his boxers shine. This after he passed his international AIBA star course.
