RHS play at KKNK soon

Randfontein High School's extraordinary play to move audiences at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees.

Randfontein High School‘s famous production, Die Einde, will move audiences at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK) at the end of March.

Die Einde is an original, fascinating, powerful drama which depicts the gruel gangster culture in South Africa’s juvenile correctional system.

It is a honest and often challenging depiction of an apparently forgotten community. It holds a hypnotising connection with the deadly effects of our most ruthless survival instincts.

The production is not only the first runner up at the ATKV Teenage Drama Competition 2015, it also received awards for the best lighting operator, (Mokgadi Mabitsela), most promising play, (Antonio Martin), best male actor in a supporting role, (Loyame Mlawuli) and best male actor in the leading role (Cantona James). They also won the best directors award (Stephen Kotze and Amanda Jankowitz).

Hennie van Greunen, a judge described Die Einde as, “A youth theatre production that forces us to other insights, that challenges what we think we know and that emotionally pulls us around and leaves us exhausted – thus total theatre.

Every aspect of this play, from text to performance, director, costumes and soundtrack is a witness of intention and functionality.”

Wilhelm van der Walt, another judge said, “Gooseflesh acting! The content is controversial, but the actors and director managed to make it accessible to the public.”

This extraordinary play will be performed at 3.30pm on Tuesday, 29 March and at noon on Wednesday, 30 March at the Griesselsaal at KKNK. Please note, an age restriction of 16 is maintained.
