One more fight to go

Hardus Jacobs took gold at the Gauteng Boxing Championships and has one fight to go to tour Russia.

Randfontein’s boxing champion, Hardus Jacobs, 17, is just one fight away from touring Botswana then later exchanging fists with Russian boxers.

The young boxing star recently fought the Gauteng Boxing Championships and received a gold in his weight class.

His next fight is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 23 March which is the South African Boxing Championships.

If he can manage a gold at the SA Championships, he will then be in the South African touring team to Botswana and thereafter, Russia in October.

The Gauteng and SA Championships were used as qualifiers for the touring team.

According to Hardus’ track record last year at the SA Championships, he stands a good chance to come out on victorius. He took the silver in his weight last year at the SA Championships.

According to his father, Jan Jacobs, Hardus is pushing himself more than he ever has. Jan said he wakes up every morning at 4am to train and he still trains until late at night.

This young boxer is currently a grade 11 pupil at Hoërskool Jan Viljoen (Jannas) and keeps the name of his school high. He is not only making his school proud, but his father, Jan, as well. He recently received a trophy from his father for being boxer of the year for ten back-to-back years.
