RHS is going places

The wonderfully talented RHS debaters impressed in Botswana last year.

Randfontein High School (RHS) is well known locally for its record eight-consecutive-year 100 per cent Grade 12 pass rate, and they are making strides in other spheres too.

Their award winning play Die Einde started on their school stage, after which it was performed at Aardklop, where they were almost unheard of (considering they are an english home language school) and now they are on their way to grace the stages of the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees.

Jason Fisher, a senior manager at RHS was the provincial winner for the category Excellence in Secondary School Teaching and Leadership at the National Teachers’ Awards. He also took second place in the same category at national level in February.

Jason is the second educator at RHS to place at the National Teachers’ Awards, as Rametsi Senoamadi last year not only took the provincial award, but walked away with the national award for Excellence in Technology, Enhancing Teaching and Learning.

“Our exceptionally talented choir pupils and their coaches were invited last year to participate in the internationally acclaimed Cantamus Choir Festival held in George.

They made such an impression on the organisers and judges that they have been invited back this year.

“In preparation for this wonderful competition they went to Badseloop in Limpopo on 10 March.

“Our athletes are trending on the athletic field too. A record 55 pupils went to the cluster meeting held at Hoërskool Jan Viljoen in February, from which 33 pupils proceeded to the D2 Championships at Hoërskool Noordheuwel.

“Eight pupils then participated in the Gauteng Championships at Germiston Stadium early in March. Our winter sports codes will be preparing for the season ahead when they travel to Port Shepstone and receive support coaching at Sportweni Sport Academy,” said Alexandra West, grade manager and Head of Department at RHS.

The wonderfully talented RHS debaters impressed in Botswana last year and will be taking their talents abroad when they participate in the Heart of Europe Debating competition in Prague in July this year.

Neo Tsotetsi not only will be joining the debaters in Prague, but will also be attending the World Junior Debating Championships in Thailand in the same month.
