Things to be grateful for when days are dark

'If you do not know the feeling of going to bed hungry, then you are very fortunate.'

Feeling down ? Then there is no better time to reflect on the things that you can be grateful for.

Here are a few of them that will make you think twice before you get all depressed.

• A roof over your head and a warm house — Few things feel better than to reflect upon having a roof over your head and a warm home

• Drinkable water — 780 million people lack access to safe drinking water according to studies. You are one of the lucky ones. This is something we all take for granted, where it is not always a given.

• You don’t have to go hungry — If you do not know the feeling of going to bed hungry, then you are very fortunate. There is a whole world out there where millions of people go to bed hungry every night.

• You can enjoy the small and free pleasures of live — Sunrise, a walk in the woods, a swim in the ocean and the sun warming your face. These pleasures are free and available to us every day.

• Access to the internet — Remember the library? How much less knowledge we would have had if there was no internet? You can find out anything, any time from anywhere.

• Friends and family — Having people that love and support you, people that understand you, and people to spend time with – this is priceless.

• Your health and body — You can hear, see and feel. Your body is your vehicle through life. Be grateful for it.

• Your past — Be grateful for the mistakes you have made, for they have made you stronger and helped form the person you are today.

• Meeting people — Everyday you have the opportunity to bump into someone interesting and new.

• You are alive — How many times have you not been in the wrong place at the wrong time? You are here now. You have this moment and this day. Make the best of it!
