Teenagers then and now

FIY, teenagers never changed all that much.

Convinced that teens then and teens now are worlds apart? Think again!

According to Beautyriot.com – a site focused on celebrity hairstyles, fashion guides, pictures and make-up trends – these are the surprising similarities between the teenagers of the 1940s and the teens of now.

Teenagers first developed their own styles and etiquette that is unique to them in the 1940s.

Although many people may differ on their perspectives about today’s teens, undeniable similarities remain. Through the ages technology formed a big part of a teen’s everyday life.

But despite of this drastic change in hobbies, the core of their activities and behavior remains the same.

Similarities such as:

The interest in free samples, whether it be listening to the latest Beatles record or trying out the new Gucci lipstick is evident in the teens from 70 years ago as well as the teens of today. But then again, who wouldn’t be down for free samples?

Enjoying break-time snacks never changed all that much with the 40s teens enjoying sandwiches and milk, in comparison with today’s milkshake break. Respect to the dairy.

As for some aspects, the life of a teen got a bit easier to maintain. For example 40s teens rocking it with rag curled hair before bedtime, while the teens of now just “crash” right after their evening shower.

The sports got a lot more exciting. As the 40s teens would usually sit back and enjoy the game, the teens of today would show up in their full school attire cheering and shouting ’til they drop’. Friday night sports thus never went out of style.

Then phone calls were an evening ritual, in comparison with today’s teens who are connected 24/7 via texting and Skype-ing. Although time has passed, teenagers still enjoy an hour or two conversation over the phone.

40s teens did their homework with the radio turned on loud, while 21st century teens’ homework demand their undivided attention as well as pulling all-nighters like never before.
