Scarlotte Will, a band to watch

Randfontein band to release their second extended play (EP).

Long haired, bearded, guitar strumming and drum beating Scarlotte Will is forging a name for themselves on the South African music scene note by note.

This Randfontein band has had a lineup of shows building up to the release of their new EP, Things Unseen. The weekend of 19 February was jam-packed with shows for the band.

On Friday 19 February the band played with Blazin Gooch and The Matchboxes at Rad Experience.

Saturday 20 Febrary they were at Rumours Lounge in Roodepoort playing alongside the likes of Polinator and Brafcharge, and on Sunday they shot images for their soon to be released EP.

Hugene Koekemoer, Scarlotte Will bassist said the EP will be released on 1 April – the band’s second. The launch of the new EP also will be the starting date for the Scarlotte Will Things Unseen Tour. The band has a video in the pipeline and Hugene said he hoped they would have the video wrapped up by April as well.

The Herald also spoke with Tristan Dos Santos, Scarlotte Will guitarist about life and being happy. Tristan has nothing but passion for music and his band. He told the Herald music is his everything and if he could, he would make music every day of his life.

Realistically, you need to make money. It’s hard but it’s something I love. We get our money at the end of a show, which is not much, but we take the little because this is what we love doing. You can’t really do this for the money,” he explained.

Tristan also embarked on a project other than Scarlotte Will. He plays bass for Blazin Gooch. While Hugene’s other project is not a permanent arrangement, he will feature as a guest artist in Permission to Speak, a New Zealand-based band.

From what the Herald has seen Scarlotte Will is a tight-knit unit that comprises more than just band members. Before the band went to play their set at Rumours, they sat around the table catching up merrily.

Tristan and Hugene both grew up in Randfontein. Tristan is from Helikon Park but now lives in Pretoria and Hugene has lived all over Randfontein and now lives in Greenhills.

The band’s music is available on Sound Cloud under Scarlotte Will.
