R’fontein primary RCL announced

The RCL were selected in a surprise induction ceremony at Rem.

Randfontein Primary School (Rem) have announced their Representative Council of Learners (RCL) on Wednesday, 10 January and the selected pupils had no idea what was happening.

We do this every year. They never know when we’re going to select the RCL. We try to keep it a surprise every year,” said Aitnne Molotsane, RCL head.

The school keeps the induction a surprise and they also secretly invite the selected pupils’ parents to the induction.

“We invite the parents. They know that their children are going to be on the RCL but they don’t know in what position so they also hear the news for the first time,” Greg Boatard, principal of Rem said.

The pupils are then lined up in front of the school and their names are called out. Molotsane said their faces are absolutely priceless when they are in the hot seat.

They sit there and when their names are called the tears start flowing,” Molotsane explained.

At the induction, the school also calls on former members of the RCL to give the current RCL some words of wisdom. This year the RHS’ head boy who was the deputy head boy at Rem gave a speech as well as a member of the RHS RCL executive committee who was also a member of the Rem RCL.

• Caleb Carlinsky – head boy

• Vivica Bhana – deputy head girl

• Makhosonke – deputy head boy

• Kelly Fortuin – academic RCL
