2015/ 2016 financial year: The municipality gives feedback

R8 500 000 is needed by the DDP in the new financial year for their projects.

The Directorate Development Planning (DDP) of the Randfontein Local Municipality on Tuesday, 9 February had an Integrated Development Planning (IDP) meeting to give stakeholders feedback on what has been done with the money from the last financial year.

The way forward and 2016/ 2017 financial year also was on the agenda.

The vision and mission of the DDP is to create an investor-friendly town with constant economic growth. They also focus on sustainable developments and sustainable, safe human settlements. Their mission is to carry out proper land use, planning, management and control thereof.

During their IDP, presentations were given from members of the DDP, the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements (GDoHS) and Sibanye Gold.

The DDP key performance areas range from the management of outdoor advertising to residential property administration. In these competencies they align themselves with the Gauteng Ten Pillars of radical transformation along with other policies.

Progress on 2015 to 2016 financial year:

• 420 houses in Mohlakeng extension 14 completed

• 30 units completed and allocated in the Mohlakeng Hostel

• 18 unites completed but not yet allocated in the Mohlakeng Hostel

• 60 of 90 two roomed houses completed but not yet allocated in Mohlakeng

• 100 of 292 houses under rectification in Badirile extension 1

Budget requirements for the 2016 to 2017 financial year:

• R5 000 000 required for town planning and building control

• R1 500 00 required for property valuation services

• Housing and property administration to be received from the GDoHS

• Local economic development for R6 500 000

The DDP have also embarked on economic projects in the 2015 to 2016 financial year. Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMME) have been given R20 000 towards the trade fairs and flea markets. The DDP have stated that two flea markets have successfully been held during the mid term financial year. More flea markets will then be held before the end of the financial year in June.

R60 000 has been given to training for informal traders and SMMEs. More training and capacity building programmes are needed to develop the SMMEs.

R20 000 was allocated to farmers markets and two so far have been successfully held thus far. The farmers support programme has been given R100 000. The programme will be implemented in the third and fourth quarter. The DDP will expand the program in the next financial year to include agricultural inputs.

R2 000 000 has been given towards the establishment of a milling plant in Hillside. The project is currently in phase one.

The DDP is the first of the departments to have an IDP and more departments are to follow suit.
