Township children get hair done for free

A hairdresser in Mohlakeng has a birthday and decides to give township children free haircuts and styles for the day.

A Mohlakeng hairdresser decided to pay it forward on his birthday by giving children in the township free haircuts and hairdos.

James ‘Jimmy’ Mokolobete who turned 34 on Sunday 30 January has been in the business of making people’s hair look good since 2003.

It’s my birthday but I want to celebrate it with the community and give back to them. What better way to give back than to give them this service for free, especially to the children. They deserve to look their best at all times,” he said.

Children lined up at Jimmy’s shop on Ralerata Street to have their hair attended to. Even children who wandered past his shop were given packets of crisps for the celebration.

Inside the shop various children got their hair done. Those who already had their hair done sat propped up like little beauty queens. The girls and boys more than enjoyed posing for the Herald and put on their best smiles and pouts even at such a young age.

The day in its entirety was all about the children and not about Jimmy’s birthday. He said nothing gives him more joy than to help out in his own community.
