UPDATE: Fourth person dies after horror head-on crash

Police: A culpable homicide case has been opened.

A fourth person has reportedly died following a horror head-on collision between a truck and taxi on the R28 near Carletonville on Thursday morning.

Initially the Herald reported that three people were declared dead on the scene and nine others were injured but it was later confirmed by police spokesperson Kay Makhubela that a fourth person succumbed to fatal injuries.

Netcare 911’s Athlenda Mathe said, “Two people injured are in a critical condition.”

It is at this stage unclear to what led to the fatal accident. Makhubela added a culpable homicide case has been opened.

The Herald is still awaiting comment from the Westonaria SAPS and the local traffic department.
