Mixed bag of results for RCC

The Randfontein Cricket Club boasted two wins, two draws and one loss in their first few matches for the year.

It was a mixed bag of results for Randfontein Cricket Club (RCC) in their matches from 16 to 17 January in what was the second weekend of matches in the 2016 cricket season.

The club managed two wins, two draws and suffered just one loss.

The Time Cricket Competition format, as explained by Clint Kruger who is the coach of the SU5 side for RCC, “is very similar to test cricket where there is a first innings and a second innings of which the batting team has an allotted time to score runs.

Time is everything here. At the end of play, which is time, the bowling side is offered the opportunity to chase the runs to beat or avoid a follow-on of the first innings score. This would result in either a first-innings win or outright win, but it also could result in a total draw.”

The Sunday 4 team did not disappoint and won the first innings by 117 runs against Khoza. The Randfontein team managed 297 for six and it proved too much for Khoza who were bowled out for 180. Top batsman for Randfontein was Duanne Grobler with his 110 runs while Tshampenju Netshikulwe took five wickets for 31 runs in his 11 overs with the ball.

The Premier A side drew against Khoza with Sam Tshabalala being one of the top performers and top scorer with 58. He also took three wickets with team mate Eduan van Heerden who managed the same feat in the bowling department.

The Sunday 5 side drew their match against Azaadville, which scored 181 and RCC 214/9.

Randfontein’s Saturday 1 side playing in the Saturday limited-overs competition thumped Old Eds by seven wickets. Sam again was the batsman on everyone’s lips who top-scored with 154.

RCC’s President side lost against Wits by 100 runs in their Sunday limited-overs fixture.

During the opening weekend from 9 and 10 January most of RCC’s teams were on the winning side.
