Mayor and team get their hands dirty

Randfontein Local Municipality embarks on back to school cleaning campaign.

The Randfontein Local Municipality embarked on a Back to School cleaning campaign to assess the state of school readiness.

The campaign as part of a mayoral special project was created to kick-start the beginning of the school year on a high note. Targeted schools were Mohlakano, Bulelani, Hartzstraat and Mabolomong Primary to name a few.

The Randfontein executive mayor, Mzi Khumalo; speaker of the municipality, Brenda Mahuma; the mayoral committee; municipal officials; community development workers (CDW) as well as community stakeholders rolled up their sleeves and took to cleaning, ensuring schools have a clean and conducive environment for learning.

Officials cut grass, swept floors and removed rubble among other cleaning activities. The municipality found that the state of readiness in Randfontein schools is satisfactory and assure educators and pupils are on board.

Although education is not the core function of the municipality, the mayor has adopted and partnered with certain schools through his mayoral special projects in order to assist them to perform optimally,” said Lucky Chiya, communication and marketing officer.

“The municipality urges the community to participate in all government projects which seek to uplift the community and take leading roles in such initiatives as these projects belong to them,” added Chiya.
