Owl rescued by previously wounded SPCA inspector

EcoSolutions: Thank you and the Randfontein SPCA for your support.

The fearless and recently wounded on the job SPCA Inspector, Janette Muller, is back to saving animals in distress.

Janette explains that an owl was brought to the Randfotein SPCA on 23 November. The resident said they found the owl but feared there was something wrong with it as it could not fly.

I gave the owl over to EcoSolutions for them to take care of it,” Janette explained.

EcoSolutions is in the business of urban ecological planning and urban ecology had as been for the last 15 years. They run the Owl Box and Township Owl Box Project – the only project of its kind in Africa and the largest in the world.

Muller said she had to drive the owl to the Krugersdorp Animal Hospital because it was the closest place to take the owl to for EcoSolutions to collect it.

Kefiloe Motaung from Township Owl Project replied to Janette’s willingness to help the bird and said, “I am happy to inform you that the owl has had its veterinary check-up. It has been ringed and will be released in the near future. Thank you and the Randfontein SPCA for your support.”

Janette also urges Randfontein residents to take owls they find to a place of safety rather than keeping them as pets.
