AfriForum takes on municipality on poo problem

AfriForum: We reserve the right to claim the expenses incurred from the municipality.

Yet another sewage issue has surfaced in Westonaria and AfriForum claims it has not been fixed since July this year.

Chris Fourie, AfriForum provincial coordinator for Gauteng South reported the matter to the municipality and threatened that AfriForum will commission a contractor to fix the problem and will claim the repair fee back from the municipality.

The sewer spill issue hasn’t been solved since July, 2015. It was reported to the Westonaria Local Municipality on various occasions,” Fourie said in a letter to the municipality.

“Venterspos residents informed me that municipal workers were on the site earlier this week to dig some trenches. Since then no further work has been done.”

Fourie asked the municipality in the letter for an indication as to when the issue will be fixed.

“If AfriForum does not receive an acceptable response from your office on or before 27 November, 2015, AfriForum will instruct Camjet to proceed with the work.

We would also like to bring to the attention of the municipality that AfriForum reserves the right to claim the expenses incurred from the municipality,” Fourie said.

Fourie confirmed that the municipality did not respond to him on the matter and said that they are going ahead with fixing the issue themselves through a contractor.
