Alert homeowner wounds would-be robber

Police: He was awoken by a noise in the house just after midnight.

A homeowner’s quick reaction led to the arrest of a robber early on Thursday morning.

Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police confirmed, “It is alleged by the 48-year-old complainant that he was awoken by a noise in the house just after midnight.

When he investigated, he saw two suspects trying to remove computer equipment from the house. The complainant allegedly fired a warning shot and the suspects fled.

“It was then later established the one suspect, 19, was wounded and he was arrested shortly after the incident. The second suspect is still at large. The Randfontein Detectives are investigating the matter.”

Captain Martin Smith can be contacted with any information regarding the second suspect.
