Man gets 18 years for killing lover
Spokesperson: This is a great success for the Randfontein Police.
A man who stabbed and killed his life partner was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.
According to Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police, the incident took place at around 6pm on Tuesday, 24 February 2015 where Percy Wales, the victim’s life partner stabbed his girlfriend in a domestic dispute.
The woman was rushed to hospital but due to the serious nature of her wounds, she passed away.
Wales was arrested and detained shortly after the incident took place. The case was settled in the Randfontein Regional Court on Wednesday 18 November where Ettiene van Niekerk sentenced the man to 18 years imprisonment. Vusi Mahlangu prosecuted the matter.
This is a great success for the Randfontein Police as the domestic violence killing case was concluded a few days before the national 16 Days of Activism against the abuse of women and children which starts on 25 November.
The theme this year is, “Count me in – Together moving a non-violent South Africa forward.”
The Randfontein Police management congratulates Warrant Officer Abraham Mautlane on the manner in which he prepared and investigated the case. He did not leave a stone unturned in the investigation and that was evident in the conviction and sentence.
“Management also applauds the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for their commitment in moving Randfontein towards non-violence,” Ernst said.
