Police on fire: 74 arrests made

Police: Arrests will increase during the festive season.

Police in the Krugersdorp Cluster showed no mercy and made 74 arrests during various special operations this past weekend (Friday 13 to Sunday 15 November).

One of the arrests made over the weekend included that of a 40-year-old man who was found in possession of four unlicensed firearms that includes two 303 rifles, one 9mm pistol and a .45 calibre.

The suspect also was found with various calibre ammunition.

The Cluster Commander, Major General Anna Mateisi is adamant that arrests will increase during the festive season since the Krugersdorp Cluster will continue with their efforts in eradicating crime,” said Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police.

Other successes include:
• 18 assaults;
• nine housebreakings;
• five arrests for possession of unlicensed firearms;
• three arrests for driving under the influence;
• rape;
• robbery;
• perjury fraud;
• shoplifting;
• intimidation;
• trespassing;
• loitering;
• and offences contrary to the Gauteng liquor act.

The police are urging community members to assist them with information.
