Man arrested for deadly poison

Police: This type of poisoning more often than not leads to crimes being committed in the area.

Randfontein Police have arrested a man found in possession of aldicarb poison, also known as Two Step.

“Two Step is a lethal poison and frequent reports are made to the local police station about animals, especially dogs, that are poisoned with the substance. Two female police officers were conducting a foot patrol in the Randfontein Central Business District (CBD) when they came across a suspect selling a substance sealed in plastic bags.

The two officers confronted the man because it is illegal to sell goods without a valid hawkers’ licence. The man was found to be in possession of numerous bags of Two Step which he was selling on the street,”said Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police.

The suspect was arrested and the substance confiscated. He appeared before the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court last Monday but the case was remanded until Wednesday (11 November).

Ernst added, “This type of poisoning more often than not leads to crimes being committed in the area where animals are killed.

“It is illegal to sell, buy or possess any such substance and criminal proceedings will follow when found in possession thereof. Poison may only be sold by licensed dealers who have to keep record of sales according to the relevant acts.”
