Bekkersdal Girl Guides get challenged

Girls taught to be tough through fun exercises.

The Bekkersdal Girl Guides had to show what they’re made of by participating in a number of activities such as hula hoop, craft and memory challenges recently.

There are different divisions in the Girl Guides South Africa group.

There is the Teddy Den, Brownie Pack, Guide Company and a Ranger Crew. Teddies are aged between 4 and 7 years old, Brownies aged between 7 and 10, Guides between 10 to 14 and Rangers 10 to 18 years.

The girls had loads of fun and effortlessly completed the hula-hoop challenge. The guides and rangers were taking there time to get clarity about the craft challenge and then got hard to work.

Everybody was competing to see who would finish the craft challenge first. The Teddies had fun with the bucket challenge as they competed to see who would fill the bucket first.

The Guides carefully chose the colours of the wool for the craft challenge and even ended up helping the Rangers finish their tasks. It was not just all work and no play; between the challenges they used the opportunity to rest and to get to know each other. The Guides took their craft challenge very seriously and even moved away from the other groups in order to concentrate.

One of the most entertaining challenges was the memory challenge. Participants were given a certain time to look at objects and then tell the other groups what they remembered.

1st Bekkersdal Girl Guides donated boxes of sanitary pads for the girls who normally missed school for five days every month because they cannot afford to buy sanitary pads.

The girls had a great day and successfully completed all the challenges.
