Hit-and-run victim left to die on highway

Man, 20, declared dead by EMS.

A 20-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident at around 8.54pm on Saturday 31 October.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said, “The police received a call about a motor vehicle accident on the N12 near Waterpan in Westonaria. At the scene they found a young man lying in the road. He had suffered severe head injuries. Emergency services already had declared them dead.

According to a witness, he was driving along the N12 when he noticed a person lying in the middle of the road. He stopped to investigate and realised the victim showed no signs of life.

“He immediately contacted the ambulance and the police. The body was taken to Carletonville government mortuary as unknown.”

Anyone with information as to who the victim could be can please is requested to contact Bekkersdal Police or the investigating officer Constable Thabane on 011 755 0000.
