VIDEO: Sewage out of hand in W’aria

'The machine used for drain clearance was out of order in the workshop'

The Herald has received various complaints regarding the sewage system and the maintenance thereof in Westonaria.

One of the incidents took place in Sarel Cilliers Street. The sewage water came from various drains and even flooded the back yard of the house.

Mike van Deventer, chairperson of the AfriForum Westonaria branch corresponded with a member of the Westonaria Local Municipality explaining he had been notified about a property that had been flooded with sewage.

Van Deventer said the issue began last week Tuesday (27 October) and reoccurred over the weekend of 31 October.

He said when he called the engineering supervisor of the municipality, he said

The machine used for drain clearance was out of order in the workshop.”

The Herald later received a call from a woman who runs a day care centre who had the same issue with her home and said she found it unacceptable that such a thing could happen while there are children in her home and that it is also damaging for her business.
