Man nabbed with unlicensed firearm

Police: We spotted a man walking as if he was hiding something on his waist.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm in Bekkersdal.

Linkie Lefane, spokesperson for the Bekkersdal Police confirmed, “Police were conducting their normal patrols around Mosidi Street in Bekkersdal at around 7.15pm on Sunday before last when they spotted a man walking as if he was hiding something on his waist.

“Police approached the man and as they drove nearer to him he started running. Police then gave chase and managed to catch the suspect and found an illegal firearm on him.

The man could not produce the firearm’s license and was subsequently arrested.”
