Creating a beautiful Mohlakeng for R10m

'This project intends to change the outlook of traditional townships.'

The Randfontein Local Municipality in conjunction with the West Rand District Municipality launched the Neighbourhood Side Walk Project in Ralerata Street (Mohlakeng) on Wednesday 21 October.

This project is a flagship initiative that intends to change the notion of traditional townships being a dormitory to their being economically viable cities.

Councillor Mzi Elias Khumalo, Randfontein Local Municipality Executive Mayor, council speaker Brenda Mahuqma, various MMCs, councillors and Larry Steyn, acting municipal manager also were present.

The Neighbourhood Side Walk Project will be implemented in Ralerata Street (Mohlakeng) and Diamond Street (Toekomsrus) as the first phase, which will cost an estimated R10 000 000.

In his speech, Khumalo remarked, “This project intends to change the outlook of the township to a city where all economic activities are to take place. The government will continue to enhance service delivery as the recipients of the development are ratepayers.

From 11 to 20 November the leadership of Randfontein Local Municipality will be undertaking the Mayoral Imbizo to account to the communities on the work, challenges and achievements scored.”

Khumalo and his entourage then proceeded to Toekomsrus to continue launching the sidewalk project.
