VIDEO: ‘Stop killing our policemen’

The Randfontein Police had a motorcade to show their disgust at the recent police killings.

‘Stop killing our policemen,’ was the message from the Randfontein Police and children who participated in the motorcade against police killings.

The Randfontein Police have had enough of their fellow officers being killed and had a recent motorcade through the streets of Randfontein to show their solidarity with those stations who have suffered losses.

The motorcade departed from the Randfontein Police Station. Involved in the project was EPR security, the fire brigade, the Randfontein Traffic Police, Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU), the Krugersdorp Cluster Women’s Network and Randfontein Police.

A float was made to demonstrate the seriousness of police killings and it was attached to the back of an EPR patrol bakkie. The float had a mannequin of a policeman and a coffin on it with various messages to the public.

Just after the motorcade departed, a crèche located in the same street as the Police Station ran out of the crèche gates with their picket signs to show they are in solidarity with the police regarding police killings.

The long line of cars were then on their way to Toekomsrus where more crèche’s marched against the killings. One of the pupils from a Toekomsrus crèche even dressed in a police uniform. A policewoman later gave him a police peak cap to complete his outfit.

Acting station commander of the Randfontein Police Station, Marius Smit also gave a talk to the children and parents about substance abuse in Toekomsrus.
