RHS wins second place for outstanding play

21 schools competed for this coveted position.

Randfontein High School (RHS) débuted there play, Die Einde at the first round of the regionals in the 51st annual ATKV Tienertoneel, where they came second.

180 Theatre groups from across South Africa and Namibia took part in this competition.

Die Einde is an intense portrayal of life as a gang member in a juvenile correction facility. At the first round of the regionals the air was filled with excitement as the news broke that the play was through to the final. 21 schools competed for this coveted position.

RHS participated against Potchefstroom Gimnasium and Hoërskool Nylstroom in the regional finals where the got second place.

They walked away with gold certificates in all categories, which is a feat considering Afrikaans is their second language.

The adjudicators Shirley Ellis, Ira Blackenberg, Petro Kruger and Elma Postma commended the learners for their bravery in dealing with controversial topics. They also received praise for their acting ability.

They are now waiting in anticipation for the announcement of the top ten plays who will be performing in the national finals.

The competition will take place during the Clover Aardklop festival on 6 to 10 October.
