Free rehab opening in W’aria

'This is a place where you can get help' - Mayor.

“This is a place where you can get help.” This is what Nonkoliso Tundzi, Westonaria Executive Mayor, said about the new men-only free drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre.

The centre is the brainchild of Clive and Cecilia Moses from the Moses Foundation who have been in the business of getting addicts back on track for donkey’s years. However, over the last two years it has become a more pressing matter.

The Westonaria Local Municipality has had a hand in the establishment of the rehab centre and said the Moses Foundation has their full backing.

The centre is located on Botha Street in Westonaria. About two years ago Clive and Cecilia bought the property with the stand-alone church and opened the rehab.

Within the two year period, a commune was built behind the church, one side of the property has been tarred, and a kitchen is in the making in half of the church building. These additions have been put in place as part of the Moses’ master plan of a rehab as well as a programme of employment after addicts have become clean.

A car wash and a restaurant are in the making at the rehab centre and will serve as a means for addicts to get back onto their feet. The Moses duo believe that an aftercare system needs to be put in place or else addicts land up in rehab over and over.

They also plan to send recovered addicts for training in various fields to equip them for life after drug abuse. For professionals who have a career, the centre will help them get back into that profession.

The rehab currently offers spiritual counselling, with the commune in the back. Four recovering addicts already found refuge at the rehab.

An additional building will be erected next to the commune where the four currently live and will serve as the care centre. The centre and the full rehab are due to open in July next year.

The car wash and restaurant is opening on Saturday (5 September) when they will be having a community fun day at the rehab on 32 Botha Street. There will be children’s entertainment, braaiing, a flee market, and a sound and show.
